Playwriting and Directing Internship

 

This advanced class, open to a select group of students each year, allows students to independently study several historic playwrights, and develop their own unique playwriting style.  Students then research directors and gain experience in directing small groups.  Students have the option of either directing a production or writing a play at the end of the internship.   CLICK for syllabus

DRAMA THREE- Advanced Acting and Production

 

Students in this advanced class spend a semester exploring acting techniques such as Stanislavski's System, Method Acting, and Meisner Technique.  They incorporate their acting methodology into performed skits.  In the second semester, the class works as a whole to put on a full production.  Students are involved in every aspect of the production, from design to rehearsal, and use skills they have learned in previous classes.    ClLICK for Syllabus

DRAMA TWO- Acting and Design

 

Students in Drama Two spend one semester focusing on acting skills.  They learn to present monologues and perfect an audition, and focus on characterization and script analysis.  The second half of the course moves into design  Students gain practical experience in costume design, lighting, scenic design, and other elements of theatre tech.  Students also explore roles in professional theatre and in theatre throughout the world.  CLICK for syllabus

DRAMA ONE - Introduction to Theatre

 

In this introuctory course, students are exposed to theatre history and design. Students build ensemble skills and basic acting knowledge.  The course covers Western theatre history from Ancient Greece to modern Broadway.  In each unit, students approach the topic through the lens of a modern designer.  Students will leave the course with a general understanding of theatre, tech, and theatre history.    CLICK for syllabus

ERHS features one of the most robust programs of drama classes in the DC area.  Students progress through four classes, developing skills in acting, design, directing, and more.
